Young people are in the midst of a mental health crisis. One in five young people are suffering from a mental health disorder and loneliness levels continue to rise, disproportionately impacting students of color, refugeess/immigrants and LGBTQIA+.

Students who are lonely and/or socially isolated are more likely to experience anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and do poorly in school.

THAT'S WHERE SOUL STORIES COMES IN.

Soul Stories is a preventative, school-compatible program that strengthens student mental health, belonging, and social-emotional skills through guided storytelling, play, and reflection. Designed to complement, not replace, existing counseling and academic supports, the program creates safe, in-person spaces where students build emotional regulation, empathy, and positive peer relationships without being required to disclose personal trauma. Using a strengths-based, youth-centered approach, students co-create norms, choose activities, and explore identity through values, relationships, and personal growth. Flexible and low-disruption, Soul Stories can be integrated into English Language Arts, Social Studies, advisory periods, enrichment blocks, or after-school programming, supporting improved school climate, student engagement, and readiness to learn.

Soul Stories created a space for our students to take risks and be vulnerable by creating genuine and compassionate peer relationships. Their magic is in their ability to model and relate to students by sharing their own successes and challenges in order to demonstrate the courage they hoped each student would work towards. Danny and Noah balance a room full of grace, liveliness, community, collaboration, and fun. It was a place our students embraced and looked forward to being a part of.
